THE CITADEL MCALISTER FIELD HOUSE

-
This 6,000SF addition to The Citadel athletic program held a brief program – locker rooms, showers, and gallery for a new set of women’s athletic programs, four offices for coaches, and a small gathering space for team meetings. The building’s entry is through a north-facing glass block wall, 30-feet high, wedged between two stuccoed planes – a tower-like thick mass and thin, crenellated plates. A gallery lies beyond defined by another tin plate wall and the concrete block mass of the locker rooms. Clerestory windows atop the stair shaft introduce natural light to the gallery below. The light is tinted by the color of the walls. Within the mass of the structure, four locker rooms share a shower room at the building’s core.
