The repurposing of Craig Hall for the Office of Admissions was completed in 2010 and provided one initial contact point for prospective students and parents. Our design focus was on the simplicity of space, finishes and details for renovation of this 40-year-old structure to house a single campus operation. The design purpose was to convey a contemporary college vision, juxtaposed with rich antebellum historicism of the campus. Admissions operations were previously located in multiple buildings and the main design objective for this project was to consolidate office locations into a 23,000 SF area on the ground floor of Craig Hall, with spaces that are inviting, efficiently organized and collaborative, reflective of the character of the campus, and appropriately influencing the impression of first-time visitors. The design team maximized the location of the space by purposely framing historic Porter’s Lodge, The Cistern, and Randolph Hall within the meeting room. LEED CI Gold Certified, the offices and conference rooms were designed around exterior windows and re-aligned interior corridors to capitalize on daylighting.
