Recently I posed the question to our studio: "Who in the architectural community (past or present) do you admire for their work?" This week I'm sharing Associate Principal & Preservation Market Leader @ LIOLLIO, Jay White's response:
Maj. Francis D. Lee (1826 – 1885)
A graduate of the College of Charleston, he practiced architecture here until the War Between the States, in which he served in the CSA. After the war, he relocated his practice to St. Louis, Missouri.
At least five of his buildings are individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places, my favorite being the Farmers’ and Exchange Bank (c.1854), at 141 East Bay Street – a Moorish Revival gem that, if proposed today, some might reject for being “not harmonious” with Charleston’s historic character. Charleston County Council, in recognition of her proven expertise and commitment to the community, has appointed Cherie Liollio to serve on the Community Development Advisory Board. The Board consists of financial, legal, government, community and construction representatives and advises and supports the Charleston County Community Development Department in its pursuit of grants and other funding sources to advance county programs.
Congratulations Cherie!
Congratulations to Andy Clark, Michael Edwards, and Jennifer Charzewski! Andy and Michael are now Associates! Jennifer is now an Associate Principal!
It is a busy day out on the intracoastal waterway today!
Today was the AIA annual business meeting. Several Liollio folks were elected for AIA Charleston 2015 Board: Jennifer Charzewski will serve as the President, Michael Edwards as the President-Elect, and Elissa Bostain will serve on the Board of Directors. Congratulations to all!
Following the elections, there was a great discussion regarding the history of AIA Charleston, notable issues past and present, and an insightful discussion about where AIA Charleston is, can, and should be headed. Dinos Liollio was a panelist along with a few other experienced local business professionals.

Recently, Dustin was caught "sketching" in the studio with real pencil and paper - a ritual celebrated with great fanfare. What was this strange ritual, proclaimed one young intern.
LIOLLIO made the construction update section of the monthly Richland Library Access publication.
Last night there was a great turn out at the AIA + CACC Lecture Series. We had a great presentation by Trey Trahan, FAIA, of Trahan Architect's body of work. For more information on his firm and work, click here!
Several young designers, including Dan and Elissa, went out to dinner to continue the design dialogue after the lecture.
The Sanders stopped by late this morning for a visit on their way back home to the upstate!
