Andy Clark attended the AIA SC Board meeting in Columbia. Following the board meeting, he attended the annual Design & Construction Partnership Legislative Reception, which had one of the biggest crowds ever! This year members of Carolinas AGC joined the engineers & AIASC at the Palmetto Club in Columbia on Tuesday evening. It was a very successful event that highlighted for the many legislators and constitutional officers that attended several key issues that members of the AEC industry in South Carolina will be focusing on for the 2015-2016 legislative session.

Congratulations to our friends at the Charleston Airport Authority, ADC Engineering & McCarthy Improvement Company for their talent, vision, dedication & commitment to quality! Liollio Architecture is honored to be part of this important project. Read The Post & Courier article here.
“This project was complicated because the airport remained operational at all times during construction, which occurred 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,” said Greg Jones, a partner in ADC Engineering.
“The contractor was extremely cooperative and attentive to schedules and quality,” Jones said. “The airport staff was diligent in the supervision of airport users and the design team worked hand-in-hand with the contractor to methodically complete the project. These efforts resulted in a high-quality concrete apron, delivered on time, under budget and with no compromise to operations or safety.”
Associate Andy Clark traveled to Clemson at the end of last week for the CAF board meetings. While he was there he attended a presentation by 2015 solar decathlon team, Indigo Pine. Learn more about the project and keep up with the progress on their website.
The solar decathlon is a multi-disciplinary applied research project sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. This year the competition will take place October 8th-18th in Irvine, California. Clemson is 1 of 17 university lead teams that design, build and operate the competition's solar powered houses.
Things are still going strong at the airport! Greg & Elissa walked the site this afternoon.
Our office selfie wall is officially complete! Make sure to check it out next time you visit us.
AIA Charleston kicked off 2015 with a roundtable discussion from a panel of Young Architects. This meeting was held as a follow up to the November meeting in which we heard from a distinguished panel of past presidents, including Dinos Liollio. As we begin a new year, we look forward to discussing current & future issues facing the profession. Liollio's Alison Dawson served on the panel, participating in a great discussion this afternoon at the Charleston Maritime Center.
We had another office pin up late this afternoon for the Richland Blythewood Library. This is a renovation and addition to an existing library, with an interesting component of a hybrid form-based zoning code.
Dustin and Elissa attended a fantastic CREW lunch today with Mayor Linda Page at Virginia's on King. She spoke about her career path and life of being a Mayor. Mount Pleasant is listed in the top ten fastest growing cities in the country!
We had a office pin up yesterday for the Finlay Park design with Stantec. We were focusing on the schematic design for the multi-purpose building, which will include several floors of event spaces with great views looking back towards downtown Columbia.
some kayakers out on the intracoastal waterway!
Remnants of a great design charrette yesterday afternoon.
Some interesting bird activity out on the water this evening...
A fantastic sunset from the studio this evening!
Dinos Liollio was invited to serve as a panelist for a symposium focused on Shaping the Future of West Ashley: A Public Discussion. The symposium was held on the evening of January 5th, 2015 at the West Ashley High School auditorium. Approximately 300 people in attendance heard presentations by Mayor Riley and Tim Keane, City of Charleston; and Michael Bobby, Acting Superintendent of Charleston County School District. The panel, consisting of neighborhood, business and school and city leaders, took questions from the audience. Many of the questions focused on a vision for improved infrastructure, establishing a coalition between County and City planners focusing on governmental intersection of properties, on-going economic development in the region, and quality of life issues, including new public libraries and schools. City of Charleston Council members were well in attendance, as was Coleen Condon, County Council representative from the West Ashley area.
The symposium was organized by Sue Stevens and the Charles Towne District Task Force, and moderated by Margaret Seidler and Bob Parks.
The next symposium will focus on infrastructure in the West Ashley area and will be held within the next 90 days.

This morning the exciting design process was captured utilizing the conference room windows!
We had a wonderful evening at Dinos and Cherie's house on Friday night for the office holiday party! We enjoyed delicious food, wine and a fun white elephant gift exchange. The most "stolen" gift was soap stone, closely followed by a gift card to Starbucks, 6 pack of beer, picnic basket, and gift card to Panera. Happy Holidays!
